It&#8217;ll be better in the morning sky for\nnorthern hemisphere sky watchers this month than it was in the\nevening for them last month. It&#8217;ll take until the last few days of\nthe month to show up though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Venus\ngoes through superior conjunction next month. But it&#8217;s already hard\nto see in the morning sky. You will likely need binoculars to pull it\nout of the morning light in the east. The planet will be at\nperihelion on the 4<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mars\npasses close to Ain in the Hyades early in the month and continues\nmoving eastward. It rises late evening and is easy to find the rest\nof the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nbest planet to view this month is Jupiter. It will be at opposition\non the 26<sup>th<\/sup>.\nAnd it will be the closest to Earth that it&#8217;s been since 1963. If you\ncan look at the planet in a telescope, you will get the best views of\nits famous red spot, some of its moons&#8217; shadows on its disk, and the\ncloud bands. Jupiter is rising in early evening when September\nstarts. It rises earlier each evening until it&#8217;s up all night around\nopposition. Then, it won&#8217;t be as close to us again until 2129.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saturn\nwas at opposition last month. It&#8217;s up most of the night, already a\nlittle above the horizon in the east at sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nmoon is at first quarter on the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>,\nit&#8217;s full on the 10<sup>th<\/sup>,\nit&#8217;s at last quarter on the 17<sup>th<\/sup>,\nand it&#8217;s new on the 25<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Southern\nlunistice occurs on the 5<sup>th<\/sup>\nat 27.2 degrees from the equator. It crosses the equator on the 11<sup>th<\/sup>\nand reaches northern lunistice on the 18<sup>th<\/sup>\nat 27.3 degrees. The moon goes south of the equator again on the\n26<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lunar\nperigee is on the 7<sup>th<\/sup>\nat 364,600 kilometers. Apogee is on the 19<sup>th<\/sup>\nat 404,500 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nequinox is on the 23<sup>rd<\/sup>\nat 01:04 Universal Time. Mercury is at inferior conjunction the same\nday.
