It&#8217;s at greatest elongation on the 4<sup>th<\/sup>.\nThe planet is moving through Gemini. As is always the case with the\nmessenger planet, you have to catch it quickly. By the middle of the\nmonth, it&#8217;ll be lost in the sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"460\" height=\"379\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercury-in-June-2020.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-530\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nLeo is high toward the west and Virgo is on the meridian at sunset.\nAquila is rising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"809\" height=\"552\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jupiter-Saturn-Mars-June-1-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jupiter-Saturn-Mars-June-1-2020.jpg 809w, https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jupiter-Saturn-Mars-June-1-2020-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 809px) 100vw, 809px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nSagittarius is up by local midnight, followed by Jupiter and then\nSaturn. The planetary pair are moving in tandem and retrograde this\nmonth between Capricornus and Sagittarius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"742\" height=\"412\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jupiter-and-Saturn-mid-June-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jupiter-and-Saturn-mid-June-2020.jpg 742w, https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jupiter-and-Saturn-mid-June-2020-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 742px) 100vw, 742px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nMars rises later in the morning hours. The red planet moves from\nAquarius to Pisces this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"530\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mars-motion-June-2020.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-533\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nVenus is unusually challenging this month. Fortunately, even when\nVenus is at its hardest to see, it&#8217;s not that hard to see. It&#8217;ll be\ntoo close to the sun to see for the first half of the month. But it\nemerges in the morning sky by the Hyades in the second half. A thin,\ncrescent moon will be next to it on the 19<sup>th<\/sup>. By the end\nof June, you will confidently find Venus above the horizon before\nmuch of the sun&#8217;s morning light is showing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"328\" height=\"543\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Venus-June-30-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Venus-June-30-2020.jpg 328w, https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/Venus-June-30-2020-181x300.jpg 181w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Eclipses<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Penumbral<\/em>\n&#8211; The\nmoon will pass through the outer part of Earth&#8217;s shadow on the 5<sup>th<\/sup>.\nThe event starts at 17:46 UT. Greatest eclipse is at 19:25. The end\nis at 21:04. Visibility of at least part of the eclipse will be in\nAfrica, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica. In a penumbral\neclipse, the attentive observer will see the moon&#8217;s face darken\nslightly until mid-eclipse and then brighten again. The moon may\nappear more red or orange because more of the sunlight reaching it\ngoing through Earth&#8217;s atmosphere first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/SkyCaramba-lunar-eclipse-visibility-map-060520-1024x638.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/SkyCaramba-lunar-eclipse-visibility-map-060520-1024x638.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/SkyCaramba-lunar-eclipse-visibility-map-060520-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/monthly\/wp-content\/uploads\/SkyCaramba-lunar-eclipse-visibility-map-060520.jpg 1167w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Annular<\/em>\n\u2013 The moon will pass in front of the sun on the 21<sup>st<\/sup>.\nIt won&#8217;t be close enough to Earth to completely cover the sun&#8217;s disk.\nRather, the sun&#8217;s disk appearing slightly bigger than the moon&#8217;s disk\nwill make a bright ring of sun around the moon. The ring, or the\nannular phase, will be visible from a spot on the border of the two\ncountries known as Congo, northeastward along the Yemen-Saudi Arabia\nborder, across northern India, southern China, Taiwan, and ending in\na spot in Micronesia.
