It\u2019s moving leftward each night and will be above the bright star Spica around the 5<sup>th<\/sup>. A crescent moon is left of the planet on the 8<sup>th<\/sup>. Saturn draws close to Venus until the ringed planet is above the goddess around the 13<sup>th<\/sup> and 14<sup>th<\/sup>. Venus continues to the left from there.<\/p>\n<p>The Great Square of Pegasus is rising at sunset. Sagittarius is on the meridian.<\/p>\n<p>Uranus, which will be at opposition on October 3, is rising at sunset too.<\/p>\n<p>Jupiter is getting high in morning dawn. It\u2019s in the middle of Gemini on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> with a waning crescent moon below it. Mars is further below and left. The red planet moves into Praesepe, or the Beehive, on the 9<sup>th<\/sup>. By that time, Jupiter has moved close to the star Mekbuda.<\/p>\n<p>Mars continues heading toward the constellation Leo, more of which can be seen as September progresses. Meanwhile, Jupiter continues its movement toward a star named Wasat. The moon passes the big planet on the 28<sup>th<\/sup>. Then the moon is somewhat close to Mars on the 30<sup>th<\/sup> and on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> of October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/01\/september-2013-astronomical-events\/venus-and-saturn-evening-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1186\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1186\" title=\"Venus and Saturn evening\" src=\"http:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Venus-and-Saturn-evening1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"437\" height=\"498\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Venus-and-Saturn-evening1.jpg 437w, https:\/\/www.skycaramba.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Venus-and-Saturn-evening1-263x300.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 437px) 100vw, 437px\" \/><\/a>Mercury makes an appearance in the evening sky in late September. The messenger will be at aphelion on the 25<sup>th<\/sup>. Its greatest elongation next month will be good for southern hemisphere views. Northern hemisphere sky watchers may find it acceptable, although not as good.<\/p>\n<p>The September equinox will be on the 22<sup>nd<\/sup> at 20:45 Universal Time.<\/p>\n<p>The moon will be new on the 5<sup>th<\/sup>, cross the equator going southward the next day, and reach first quarter on the 12<sup>th<\/sup> on the same day it\u2019s at southern lunistice. Lunar perigee is on the 15<sup>th<\/sup>. The moon will be full on the 19<sup>th<\/sup> when it\u2019s on the equator heading north. Northern lunistice is on the 26<sup>th<\/sup> and a last quarter moon will be seen the next night. Apogee occurs on the 27<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>People in the Middle East and eastern Europe who watch the waxing crescent moon and Virgo\u2019s bright star Spica will see an occultation on the evening of the 8<sup>th<\/sup>. Watchers from ships in the southwest Atlantic Ocean will seen the moon cover Venus.<\/p>\n<p>Some other notable conjunctions this month include Venus and Spica on the 6<sup>th<\/sup> 1.6\u00b0 apart, Saturn and the moon 2.3\u00b0 aprt on the 9<sup>th<\/sup>, the ringed planet and Venus 3.5\u00b0 on the 18<sup>th<\/sup>, and the moon by Aldebaran 2.7\u00b0 away on the 25<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The first discovered asteroid, Ceres, is at perihelion on the 15<sup>th<\/sup>.
