Moon on equator 2

Like the sun, the moon appears to travel northward, then southward, then northward again as it makes it circuit. The sun does this because the earth’s axis is tipped compared to the plane in which it orbits. The moon goes north and south because its orbit is at an angle to the earth’s rotation.

When the moon is at its farthest point north, it is at northern lunistice. At its southernmost point, it is at southern lunistice. Below is a list of times in 2017 when the moon is at the lunistices and when it crosses the equator on the way to the next lunistice. All dates and times are Universal Time.
